Glastonbury 2011

After a quick weather check, the arrival of my partner in crime for the weekend and wellies firmly on my feet we stepped into the unknown and headed for a weekend of crazy at Glastonbury.. And we were not disappointed.

The line-up this year was strong, with acts performing included U2, Beyoncé, Primal Scream, Chemical Brothers, Mumford and Sons, Plan B, Morrissey, Biffy Clyro, Elbow, Tinie Tempah, Jessie J and many more.
We arrived in what can only be described as biblical conditions. The down pour was horrific. But that did not deter the choice in wardrobe and we were still determined to wear the festival uniform of shorts and wellies. Yes did I not mention there were weather checks but let’s not let them spoil a good look!
So in the torrential rain we trekked or should I say ploughed our way through the thousands of festival participants and what can only be described as a mud landslide. We were lucky enough to hold Access all Area production passes so we made our way as fast as we could to the safety of the VIP compound which was located in a cluster of Winnebago’s between the Pyramid and The Other Stage. We quickly got a plan of action and a few ciders later we were making our way to watch U2 come on stage to perform to what can only be described as a sceptical crowd. However they came on stage to a warm welcome and kicked of the first headlining evening with a bang...
We decided to leave after a few songs and get really stuck into the festival and go and find some true rock stars... Step forward Primal Scream. These guys know how to rock it and I speak from experience. In 2000 whilst traveling around Australia with my best friend we had the opportunity to travel up the coast with the band as my brother was managing them at the time and they were touring around Australia. All I can say is that it was an experience that we'll never forget and everything they say about rock stars stands true to form with these guys. Every single performance they do is met with true rock and roll fashion and watching them at Glastonbury it seemed nothing had changed. Maybe slightly older, but Mani and Bobby still had the edge over everyone in the Rock star stakes... So after my Primal Scream fix we headed back to the VIP area where U2 were getting ready to host their own party... All I'll say, U2 need to go on tour with Primal Scream if they want to know how to throw a party, they may learn a thing or two! We kicked off at about 3am and headed home for a shower and exfoliation after all the mud and get a few hours’ sleep before it all started again.
We headed back in for Day 2 and with the weather looking slightly brighter we were back in the festival spirit. Tonight it was all about White Lies, Chemical Brothers and Coldplay. We were lucky enough to be invited on stage to look at Coldplay from the stage wings, so to say we had the best seats in the house would be a bit of an understatement. Coming in as not a huge Coldplay fan, I left a huge one! They brought the house down and put on an amazing show. The entire crowd which included Jay Z, Beyoncé and Gwyneth Paltrow were giving it socks. It was a brilliant performance. Have a look at the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xh6XBy67O4U

Day 3 - One word Beyoncé. It's all about Beyoncé today! We arrived lunch time and walked around in the baking sun, everyone looked a bit worse for wear but what can you expect on the last day. We took in a brilliant performance from the Noisettes. Who literally got into the crowd. At one point Shingai Shoniwa climbed the stage frames, much to the horror of the security but she was amazing! Definitely one of the most show stopping performers we saw over the weekend.

We waited and waited and Beyoncé was worth every second. For me she was the highlight of the entire weekend! Playing to one of the largest crowds Glastonbury has ever seen at any one stage and being the first female to do so, she blew everyone away and looked hot doing it! I think hate or love her, she had the whole of Glastonbury behind her that evening and after a lot of speculation if she would fit in at Glastonbury, she did more than fit in, she took over the place and I think she will be the talking point for this year's festival!
After three days of partying and experiencing 4 seasons in one weekend, I was ready to go home. I was beaten and that's coming from a girl who has partied with Primal Scream... Not an easy thing to do!
My favourite tweet of the weekend was from Jay Z – “What's the difference between God & Bono? God won't be wandering around Glastonbury festival thinking he's Bono.”
